Broadcast Media

Broadcast your Brand

The term 'broadcast media' covers a wide range of different communication methods that include television, radio, podcasts, blogs, advertising, websites, online streaming and digital journalism.

Traditionally, broadcast media in the UK was very much the domain of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The BBC is a public service broadcaster established by Royal Charter. It's funded by the licence fee paid by UK households and provides a number of radio and TV services. Many other countries have their own versions of public funded broadcast media but broadcast media can also be a commercially funded service - paid for by advertising or sponsorship - such as ITV (established in 1955) and Channel 4 (established in 1982) in the UK for TV or a large number of Independent Local Radio (ILR) services that predominately broadcast on AM, FM and DAB with many now simulcasting via an online streaming platform referred to as Internet Radio.

Wikipedia describes Internet radio (also web radio, net radio, streamingradio, e-radio, IP radioonline radio) as a digital audio service transmitted via the Internet. Broadcasting on the Internet is usually referred to as webcasting since it is not transmitted broadly through wireless means.

Most companies consider Marketing and Information Technology as different areas of their business and often have differing strategic priorities. IT is in increasingly an outsourced business area with responsibilities delivered through service level agreements with a number of tightly defined KPI’s. Marketing has become ‘Digital Marketing’ but the focus can far too easily become a numbers game for ‘likes’, ‘subscriptions’ and ‘followers’.

So what happens if you combine the power of the internet as your broadcast platform and then add specialist journalism and marketing skills blended with seriously innovative technical talent? This is what we do at North Broadcast and our creative team will work with your team to broadcast your brand to a truly global market.

Take a look at some of our projects and decide for yourself if this is something you’d like to discuss further. We prefer to speak with our potential clients so email and phone are encouraged over web contact forms.

Internet Broadcasting Services

We create entire radio stations using broadcast software and hardware solutions hosted entirely in our own specially designed broadcast facilities.

It is our belief that if you are starting a radio station in 2019 it needs to embrace the internet as your primary delivery platform and we have over 20 years experience in delivering great sounding radio.

Our professional platform delivers outstanding quality compared to FM or Digital Radio and we run each station as if we were your studio engineer or your head of music programming.

Taking a local event to a global audience can significantly enhance your brand and almost every social media platform makes it easy to take your event to targeted and receptive audience.

Making your live event sound and look good can be challenging and this is the area that our team can add value whilst protecting your brand reputation. Not every event needs a full-on production and many smaller events loose their intimacy if there are more crew than participants in attendance.

Our team specialise in local heritage and community events where we enjoy working with event organisers and their sponsors to deliver a professional and memorable event across all relevant platforms.

Currently we can support multi-cam (up to 8) and 360 streaming - the latter ideal for workshop-based events where it is better to let the viewer decide what they want to see.

In the same way that we create radio we can enhance your existing radio service to what we refer to as ‘visual radio’ or start with a blank canvas and create a dedicated ‘web tv’ service.

If you already have access to a number of video assets then providing a platform to display and endorse your brand messaging makes sense and can allow your design agency and your internal digital marketing teams to collaborate on a 24x7 presence for your products and services.

Our visual radio service is only delivered as an enhancement to an existing radio station service and we would only recommend taking this next step if your brand and content could meet the demanding expectations of those who regularly consume video content on the internet.

Our dedicated video and audio streaming platform is used extensively for our virtual radio and web tv services but it is also available to freelance broadcasters who just want to provide a reliable broadcast grade feed for their clients who take their shows live.

Depending on your needs we can provide hardware encoders that allow you to deliver primary, secondary and tertiary failover contribution feeds.

The same service is available for independent internet radio stations who know how to run their station but who just want to get access to our range of professional grade audio processing engines.

We can provide you with a number of processed streams to allow you to fully evaluate your signature sound.

Webcams are an extremely effective means of delivering Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) for tourism or other destination websites but it needs to be done well.

Even today the term ‘webcam’ is synonymous with poor quality or grainy images of some boring ‘view’ and many sites are poorly maintained. However, as part of a destination marketing strategy, these live visual assets have the ability to emotionally engage your aspiring visitors during their planning phase as well as keeping in touch when they have arrived home.

If you are looking to promote your destination then consider a network of high quality cameras to organically create your army of brand ambassadors.

We have chosen the remote Shetland Islands to host our training workshops in how to create an internet community radio station as this location takes in a real world scenario involving the many real challenges that are rarely seen in cities where infrastructure is taken for granted.

We have created the ability to connect a community of broadcasters using a combination of ADSL, FTTC, 4G, Wireless and Satellite communications using a virtual radio station as the hub.

In addition to the technology courses we also offer the opportunity to try your hand at being a broadcast on-air personality. We will show you what equipment you need to get yourself and your fellow presenters online and pick-up some tips from professional broadcasters whilst enjoying the backdrop of a truly amazing place.

We guarantee that this is one training opportunity that you will never forget.

Visual Radio

The above video stream is a demonstration of the ‘visual radio’ enhancement that allows you to provide visual content that compliments the audio content from your radio station. Care has to be taken to avoid the video content to become distracting to the viewer however if you get the content right then there is every chance those watching will engage with your station for longer and your brand messages will be seen and acknowledged whilst not impacting on the primary radio station listening experience.

In this demonstration we are showing you the place that is home to our 60 North Radio station. In doing so we hope to encourage you to visit the SHETLAND ISLANDS and attend one of our Community Radio Courses and see for yourself how to best create a complete broadcast platform for your brand or for your community.
